Narcissist

It has been awhile since I’ve kept up on the blog portion of my site. Since I’ve last posted there has been a global pandemic, a baby, a new home, and my wedding. As a way to keep up on my blog, I thought it was be a decent idea to include my artist statements for my work here. Beginning with my most recent piece, Narcissist.

This painting is an homage to the timeless tale of Narcissus from Greek mythology. Enthralled by his own reflection, Narcissus, a youth of unparalleled beauty, became ensnared by his self-admiration. Unable to tear himself away from the mesmerizing image in the pool's still waters, he succumbed to thirst and starvation.

In my interpretation, I aim to capture the haunting allure and tragic consequences of Narcissus's obsession with his own reflection. Through the delicate brushstrokes and subtle interplay of light and shadow, I invite viewers to contemplate the ephemeral nature of beauty and the perilous depths of unchecked desire.

As Narcissus met his demise, the very spot where he lay became adorned with flowers that bore his name. Much like their namesake, Narcissus flowers bloom fleetingly, their delicate petals a poignant reminder of the transient nature of life and love.

Through this painting, I delve into themes of vanity, longing, and the fragility of the human spirit. It serves as a meditation on the eternal quest for self-discovery and the profound impact of our innermost desires.

Just as Narcissus's story continues to captivate and resonate across generations, I hope this artwork sparks introspection and contemplation in all who behold it.

IX 2018

Last week I participated in Illuxcon’s 2018 Artist Showcase. It was first time I have ever held a booth displaying my art work. The overall response I got was very positive. Illuxcon is always inspirational to me. It is always a great opportunity to see incredible art on display and interact with the brilliant artists that created the pieces. I am saddened it is over, but I am already looking forward to next year!

Illuxcon 2017

It's autumn which means it is time for Illuxcon again! I have attended the Illuxcon for the past few years now and it is never short of inspiring. It takes place in Reading, Pennsylvania and is an art convention based around contemporary imaginative realism. This year I will be attending the week by helping my good friend Victoria Steel whom has a booth this year. Her booth will be full of original paintings, drawings, and prints for sale. Come to Illuxcon, say hi, and check out some amazing arts!
